Surfing U.S.A. I couldn’t help but sing when I finally finished this dresser that I’ve been tinkering with on and off for several weeks. I painted it three times trying to get it just right but each time I wasn’t feeling it. Am I the only one who does this?
I initially painted it in a rich green but felt this color was a bit too taste specific to sell quickly in our area.

You know me, I like to mix ‘em up so I layered over it to tone it down a bit.
The top was given one nice coat of APC’s Blue Jeans which has since been retired. I washed over that color with APC’s Surfboard. The two colors really pop one another!
The icing on the cake was when my friend Laurie stopped by and asked if I wanted to borrow her awesome stencil for anything. Um ~ YEAH!
I mixed up some leftover sample pots to paint a base color of orange then topped it off with another layer of yellow.
Scuffed it up a bit then sealed it with Clear Wax and off she went to the shop to await her new owner.
Ooo~La~La!
Finally ~ I Likey! What do you think?

I love it now.. really love the stencil as well… You do such gorgeous work. BeachGlass is one of my favorite American Paint Company colors.
You out did yourself on this one! Wowzer! Love it!
Thanks Marce ~ you sound like me w/ your Wowzer ~ lol
That’s a really striking piece. Love the depth of color.
Thanks Betsy!
I love what you did with the piece. I need to learn more about the American Paint Company.
Thanks Carol!
WOW! I likey very much. the color is amazing. Is the paint similar to CC Caldwell’s?
Thanks Kathy! It’s the same chalk/clay base paint in it’s pure form so it’s a bit more condensed.
Oooooo-La-La is right!
Shelly, you always get it right ~ this defines SUMMER with the Beach Glass blue and Sunny Yellows.
no doubt yeah? after a LONG winter, I’m so ready for summer!
That’s gorgeous Shelly. That stencil really put a lot of punch to the piece & you are masterful in your layering applications! Am curious, what is the name & info on that stencil?
Thanks Colleen! I’m not sure on the name.
That piece is gorgeous–love the layers of color and that stencil ROCKS! Can you share the mfg?
Thanks Kristen! I borrowed it, not sure where it came from.
Love this chest. The colors are beautiful, the sea glass color is perfect. I would love to have a statement piece like this in my home.

I love it! I am so ready for school to be over and the dresser totally makes me think of summer.
I love how the piece turned out. That stencil placement is so cool. Do you carry stencils? I would like to get that one you used for a piece I am doing.
BEAUTIFUL AS USUAL!
Thanks Lauren!!
Simply love it, very creative and bold statement piece…….
Looks like maybe a Cutting Edge stencil. Just GORGEOUS!!
Wow, Shelly, it looks great! I love it in that color. I really liked the green but I think this has so much texture and color and I love the stencil. Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays.
Love it! You said you waxed the green but then painted the blues. Did you have to remove the wax to re-paint and, if so, how?
Great question! No, you don’t have to remove the wax. I’ve painted right over wax lots of times but it’s best to wipe over a waxed finish first with some Denatured alcohol before repainting.
This piece totally blows me away — the depth of the colors, the stencil — completely in love with this piece : ) The effect of the flower stencil is like multi-dimensional!
Thanks Madeleine!
