I have a passion for furniture built before the days of mass production, pieces created by the true craftsmen of years gone by. I especially fall for dressers with fabulous curves, great legs and amazing details.
I found a two such dressers recently and ended up paying well over what I should have. I couldn’t help myself; they had my name written all over them!
I gave them a good cleaning and went to town. This one got a fresh coat of CeCe Caldwell’s Destin Gulf Green Paint.
Have I mentioned how much I love this color? Just look at all that yumminess!
If you’re following my blog, you know I have a hard time stopping with just one color. I had to funk it up a notch by adding a little of CeCe Caldwell’s Spring Hill Green and Vintage White ~ what can I say? Plain is ho-hum. Funky is cool!
I was going for a whimsical cottage style with this treatment.
Any teenager would go crazy over this in their room! Just check out the details…

I also love the look of these pieces in an entryway. The look great and provide lots of storage for all that clutter. Did I even mention the dental molding?

Oh to find exactly what I want, and not be able to have it – torture! I would pull out my credit card now. I may have to try and do this myself. I have been going to garage sales trying to find a piece like this. Any detailed tips would be greatly appreciated: how to mix the colors, if the paint is wet when distressed, if the entire piece needs to be sanded first, anything! Love your work.
I too am DYING to know how you did this! I tried recently and I feel like I kind of messed up the entire piece and need to either wash everything off or just paint over it. I’m so bummed. Any help on how you did the Spring Hill Green over the Destin Gulf Green is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!
I believe I have the same dresser which I just received on 11/17 except mine has the mirror with or should I say the frame or harp that held the mirror. All of the pulls are missing along with the key escutcheons. Are the drawer pulls on yours original slong with the key escutcheons ? What yesr would this have been msde ? Thanks John
Hi John, I’m honestly not sure if the hardware was original to the piece John; I painted this years ago and I remember one of the blue dressers I pained during that time was short a pull so I had to find a set. We have a guy near us who has a large store full of antique pulls. It’s called B&C Emporium. You can order online or call the store, send pictures and talk to the owner. As far as the dresser goes, I would estimate it’s probably 80-100 years old but I’m not an antique specialist by any means.
Thank for the reply and the tip on the furniture store. I will call them today. I ‘m sure that at least the key escutcheons are original to your piece. I bought 3 old dressers all by different manufacturers and none of them had any original hardware left on them, only can see the outline of what shape tge key escutcheons were. These pieces were in old rental cottage or cabin on lake Saint Marys in Celina Ohio. Why they were still there I don’t know but I was fortunate to be able to obtain them. The cottages are scheduled for demo this week. That means more history being destroyed. The furniture has found a good home though and I hope to bring them back to their original condition as soon as I can. Thanks again for responding……John M Adams

I spoke with you last month about the blue oak dresser . I found the original key escutcheons . I wanted to ask you what is the hole diameter for the pulls on the two top drawers? Mine measure 1/4″ but the pulls are not original and do not fit tight because of the large hole diameter. Is there a screw post on your knobs that fit in the hole ? If so could u send me a photo of one of those drawer pulls ? Thanks John
