A month ago, we lost our cat and had to find an spot to bury her. The kids thought it would be best to bury her under our magnolia tree in the back yard.
We picked up flowers from our friend’s greenhouse and cleared a spot for her.
The kids threw in some of their favorite jewelry (ouch!) and we said our goodbyes.
The space needed something to anchor it so pulled an old chair out of the garage to use as a garden chair planter.
I grabbed some paint and slapped on a thin coat of CeCe Caldwell’s Hershey Brown. Then I mixed some Spring Hill Green with a splash of Maine Harbor Blue to create one of my favorite shades of green, watering the concoction down a bit to create a color wash.
The last thing I did was dry brush some Santa Fe Turquoise over it in a sloppy manner to highlight details and accentuate some of the nicks and texture in the existing finish.
A hui hou!
Have a great weekend!!
Right now is a great time if you’d like to do something like this as I just received a large shipment of CeCe Caldwell’s new paint colors including: California Gold, Johnston Daffodil, Traverse City Cherry, Cinco Bayou Moss, Portland Rose, Kentucky Mint, Pinkerington Violet, Texas Prairie and Mississippi Mud. Check them out and or order them online here or pick it up in West Michigan at our Shizzle Design booth at Not So Shabby here. You’ll find our display along side our painted furniture and re-purposed vintage treasures.
A hui hou! ~ Shelly

I’m so sorry about your cat. You’ve created a beautiful memorial corner for your kitty. Love the chair.
Sorry about your loss. It’s a cute memorial spot. Looks great.
A fitting Shizzle tribute to kitty! That chair turned out great. It looks like a copper patina! Love it.
We love cats here in my family. Of course, we love dogs and fish and horses and whatever else comes along. I’m sorry for your loss.
I love what you did to the chair though. And this was no distressing at all, right?
Hi Misti! The only thing I did to expose the brown underneath the green was to use a wet rag and gently rub back some of the green. I rarely sand anything anymore. I like the look better and no more messes! I also water down my paints a lot to create color washes.
I’m sorry to read about the loss of your cat. This corner of your yard will be full of good kitty memories now. The chair is beautiful.
What a beautiful living vingnette you created for your beloved kitty.
Gorgeous color combinations! I love how you mix and layer colors!
This is a great tribute to your kitty! I know just how difficult this is! I have three!
So love the color! What a beautiful spot. so sorry about your cat. I just lost mine a few months ago.
However, my son’s friend just found 3 little orphaned 3 weeks old kittens some idiot dumped in a box. I’ve been
playing surrogate queen. Wished you lived closer, I’d save one for ya!
You are so darn clever!!!! I am featuring this today, starts at 2:00 EST. You are genius, love, love, love the finish. Love you too! -K
