I love the smell of cedar. It reminds me of our trips up to Indian River when I was a little girl. The aroma of cedar from all the hand carved treasures filled the air in the local shops.
So when I ran across a cedar chest recently, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to breath new life back into it. The chest was in rough shape when I found it, but I knew it would make a cool coffee table or unique wedding gift for someone so I forked out a large chunk of cash and hauled it home.
I sanded off all the scratches and marks on the top revealing the beautiful wood grain of the cedar.
Look at the difference after applying CeCe Caldwell’s Light Aging Wax (Left has been waxed, right hasn’t). I love the richness the color gives it.
I painted the rest of it with CeCe Caldwell’s Alaskan Tundra. This color looks amazing on furniture! You can see the raw color of the paint after it has dried on the right. On the left-hand side, I have started applying the wax which makes the paint look wet until the wax dries.

Whoa Baby, that is awesome! One question – did the light and dark wax combo take the blue paint color to distressed olive green? That’s how it looks on my monitor but one never knows.

I love Cedar Chests! Oh I love the smell of them too. Yours is gorgeous!! Stay away from those Hay Bales and for goodness sake, stop rolling around in them.

So, repeating a question above: did the light and dark waxes change the blue into the (gorgeous) olive-y green the chest looks on my monitor? It’s a perfect finish.
Yes Christine, the light and dark waxes did change the Alaskan Tundra quite dramatically on this cedar chest. I had just started using it when I did this and applied much more than I would now but I still love how it turned out for this piece.
