Antique Bed in Georgia Clay

My sister Cathy just finished painting this bed in Georgia Clay.  It was layered over Vermont Slate and Vintage White then distressed to create an old world finish.

This was her first project using CeCe Caldwell’s Paints and I think she knocked it out of the park!

She’s been dying to get her hands on this paint for a few months now, but she was so busy preparing for her daughter’s wedding, she didn’t have a chance ~ until now.

This is the project she tackled with it!  I knew this bed would be a knock out, but my jaw totally hit the floor when I saw her awesome transformation using CeCe Caldwell’s Paints.  She totally put me to shame on her very first piece!  What a brat.

She layered the bed in Vermont Slate, Vintage White and Georgia Clay distressing in between to reveal the various layers.  Ok, seriously… is the distressing on this amazing or what?  I may be bias because she’s my sister, but I LOVE IT!!  Check out the finials on the footboard – GORGEOUS!!!

Yes, the neighbors were coming out of the woodwork to see if Country Living or Better Homes and Gardens were on site – lol!  We had fun with it!!
Here’s another close up of all that yummy layering!

Update: We immediately had a ton of interest in this bed which found a new home in Long Island, NY.

If you’d like to do something like this yourself, we can help you out there too.

  1. God, you’re something else you!!!
Gorgeous – and I would never never never have thought to paint anything that color – ( georgia clay ) what vision you have!
    Hugs,
    Suzan

  2. *Love* Im going to be starting a maple desk that my daughter wanted matched to her room. Since I didn’t think it would actually match when finished we decided to go shabby chic with CeCe’s paint. I bought the white, but now I’m thinking I need to layer. I guess I’ll go get some darker brown to use first then do the white. I hope it turns out as great as your projects turn out!!

Do you have dimensions on either of those buffet tables pictured in this post??

  3. You have some amazing pieces of furniture for someone that is lucky enough to snag them. Love all of them. Hard to pick my favorite! They are even prettier in person!!! These pics don’t do justice!

  4. Shelly, these pieces are gorgeous! You’re right, the layering on the bed is amazing! I love it and I can say, it looks like our Georgia clay! Each one of these pieces is so unique! You’re a gifted painter! Okay, “the brat” is too! 🙂

  5. Aren’t sisters wonderful? You teach em everything you know, and then they go and try to outshine you? 🙂
Seriously, I love that bed, and your sister did a great job. I wonder how many people took a nap??

  6. Hi Shelly,
I was doing a little research on chalk paint and found you, so happy I did. I bought an old maple table and want to paint it. I thought in cream, but I had no idea how many color options there are. Now I think I’m in trouble. I’m not too far from your area and when I can I’m gonna stop in and see your line. Gorgeous bed.

  7. That bed is a true work of art. So yummy! I’ m featuring it today on my Once Upon a Firefly FB page. And, of course, I’ll be pinning it.

    1. Hi Claudine,

You don’t have to buff Satin Finish, however I personally like to take a very fine grid sand paper over the top once I’m finished to smooth it out a bit. This can even be done with a paper grocery bag. When I apply our Satin Finish, I do dilute it a bit with water which allows me to brush it really nice too. I typically apply two coats of this gently sanding when I’m finished.

      Hope that helps!
