Does it ever take way longer for anyone else to accomplish things? It does for me like ALL THE TIME.
I painted this in one of my favorite colors, Young Kansas Wheat the day I got it but it just didn’t do anything for me. It was too plane Jane for my liking. It needed something, a French Label, a stencil, dry brushing, layering ~ something.
I pondered ideas while I waited for a light bulb to go off…
Finally it hit me ~ I’d try a faux zinc finish to resemble those pieces in Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn.
I’ve seen a lot of different versions for this but two of my favorites were created by Jami at Freckled Laundry and Kelli from Restore Interiors.
The other super cool vintage faux zinc table that I thought would be appropriate for my table top was inspired by Kelli from Restore Interiors.

I actually love the look of them both and the second almost looks like an old distressed metal barn sign material…I will have to try and remember your technique…:)
Its awesome.

I love your attitude – just try again.
Have fun making it happen.
Love both effects. Very neat! x
Love how you just roll with it 🙂 Vermont Slate is the most fabulous color I am loving it on my table. Just need to distress and wax to reveal. Oh and clean my dining room lol.
Hysterically laughing here Shelly..I can so relate. Actually both finishes looked good! I bet you are dying to try it again.
I will send you my phone # so you can call me when you come down.
Cheers
Faye
I love both finishes, but I totally get it. You just know when something don’t feel right and you will keep trying till you get that aha moment. When I tried the crackle effect on my coffee table I made several retries (ugh… painful). Im still not totally happy with it, but like you I take forever to get something done and inbetween I move onto other things…lol.
Good luck with your 3rd attempt!
xx

Hi Shelly. Yes, I do the same thing! and also yes, it takes me forever as well! Hey, you can’t rush art! LMAO
Love the table. Ima gonna jump on this zinc wagon (usually I’m the last to try any trend) as soon as a suitable piece comes along! Love it!

I really like both too, and like you projects seem to take me forever! Gosh I thought it was just me, and when I think the project is simple it will take me way longer. Very cool!
Stop messing around and just stop when you get to a good point. Wait, I am talking to myself again. It looks way cool just as it is. I am loving that fake zinc top too. Trying that Freckled laundry one!
It may not have turned out the way you wanted it, but it still looks wonderful! By the way, the messages you are leaving on my blog posts aren’t showing up in my email anymore, and I don’t know why! I check my junk box and they didn’t go there either – they are lost somewhere in the email ozone.
usually posts some really exciting stuff like this. If you are new to this site
I love this! I am in the process of redoing my coffee table and going to try this. I have never done anything like this before so I am a little nervous. I have some general questions for you if you don’t mind. First of all I live in Alaska so I was wondering if there are any other paints that would do the same thing that I could actually get my hands on. I looked up this Ce Ce stuff and it is all very difficult to get. Did you seal the piece with anything? Is a polyurethane recommended for a coffee table or is the wax you talk about a good enough sealer for a coffee table? Maybe the polyurethane would ruin the zinc finish?? I have no idea any additional info would be great! Thank you!
