I thought Valentines Day was a great day to share the king size bed I painted in CeCe Caldwell’s Traverse City Cherry.
I decided to paint this in my living room so I’d have lots of room to spread out all the pieces. LOVE working in here, so much nicer than my TINY workshop, this king size headboard never would have fit!
I could totally get used to using this space ~ wonder what my husband would think of that? hmm…
I gave it a quick base coat of CeCe Caldwell’s Virginia Chestnut but you can also use American Paint Company’s Wild Horses for this deep base. I wanted a deep espresso to show through when I did the wet distressing.
Virginia Chestnut has a funky color to it when it’s dry like it is in this picture, but when you wax it ~ it is fabulous!! Traverse City Cherry freaks people too out when they use it the first time because it has a definite pink cast to it when it dries. For a more warm, rich red, I recommend American Paint Company’s Firework’s Red. If it would have been available when I did this set, I definitely would have chosen that over the Traverse City Cherry.

The color is beautiful. Just the “right shade” of red for me. For a while, I’ve wanted to paint a piece of furniture red, this looks like the color I want. I’ll have to check out this line. Did you use a clear wax on top?

Just when I think I’ve picked out my favorite project of yours, you make something even more gorgeous. My new favorite is this red bed. Wow!
Traverse City Cherry is my favorite color ever. I’ve painted a curio cabinet, a dozen picture frames and am in the middle of painting a dresser to entertainment center with it. I’m using the Virginia Chestnut to do a wash over the top of it. I really want to get a lot of dimension in the Traverse City Cherry. Working on the picture frames has given me a lot of practice. When I’m done I’ll have the entertainment center on one wall with a gallery wall across from it with 3 dozen various picture frames in Simply White, Traverse City Cherry and a Maison Blanche brand of green.
I have to say I’ve spent the last hour checking out your painting on your blog. You do a wonderful job. I’ve gotten a LOT of inspiration reading about your layering techniques. I will be playing around more. I have 2 more pieces in the garage after the entertainment center is done and my neighbor is giving me a dresser when she moves out in a month or so. I’ll have lots to play with. Thanks for your help and information!!!
