7-13-17 Update on Cath ~ hospice

The results are in from Monday’s scans and not are what we prayed for.

We met with Dr Gribbin Tuesday and found out the third line of chemo didn’t

help as the cancer continues to progress.   Continuing chemo would cause more harm than good at this point.  It will shorten her quality and quantity of life so it doesn’t make sense to continue.  She’s tried three different types.   That last type of chemo, Taxol, came with horrible side affects so I’m so glad he agreed to do the scans before making her go through that next round.

SCLC is a monster and I pray for any person, family member or caregiver that has to experience this hell on earth.  I’ve never felt so helpless.

Lack’s arranged for Hospice as we were leaving Dr. Gribbon’s office someone from Hospice met us at Cath’s within hours.  This doesn’t mean she is going to tip over and die tomorrow; I think most people think that because that’s when people finally take advantage of what their facilities have to offer.  If you get better while on hospice, you can opt back out and or if the option to try a clinical trial or immunotherapy type of treatment is available, a person can opt out of hospice and go back to how it was before.

Right now this is the best option for her.  Hospice actually has more freedom to help control her pain… because they don’t have to stay within any limits or avoid any meds that might conflict with chemotherapy.

That being said, Cath has been put through hell  the past seven months.  There’s just no other way to describe it.  This specific cancer is a beast.

We have a big event coming up this month and are asking for very specific prayers.  Praying Cath’s pain is controlled and that she is well enough to enjoy a family  getaway at a cottage we rented.  Also hoping and praying we can get her out to Sleeping Bear Dunes and other scenic outlooks over Lake Michigan and throughout the Leelanau Peninsula.  Finally, that she’s feeling well enough to attend my niece’s wedding.  Please join us in praying for these specific things!

Words cannot express how much we appreciate all the love, support, prayers and continued paint sales as we go through this difficult journey.  We wouldn’t be able to do it without you!

To follow Cath’s progress, you can subscribe to her CaringBridge website, It’s listed under Cathy Blood.  You can also view updates on her GoFundMe site, also under Cathy Blood.  I also post small updates on our ShizzleLLC Facebook page.

Thanks again, Shelly

    1. oh thanks so much Carina! We do too. I’m literally sick to my head and stomach with nerves right now.

  2. We can only pray a treatment is found which will help her finally. So sorry things haven’t gone better for her,is a shame she has to keep suffering. Will pray for her.

    1. Thanks. It’s been about as bad of an experience as I an imagine. All four of us in my immediate family have cancer. Mine shouldn’t come back and our brother too should be fine with frequent scans as his was caught early. Mom’s cancer PET scans were only good once then 2 weeks later they found more so she’s back in treatment. Living a nightmare

    1. Thanks Lori. It’s been such a nightmare ride, I just haven’t had time plus half the stuff she’s gone through is so terrible, it’s not even appropriate to share.

  3. Prayers for All..Knowing that Peace & Comfort, surrounded by Love is by Divine Appointment. Blessings and Love, Linda

  4. You’ve been through so much Cathy but can still carry such a beautiful, radiant smile. You are so strong. Prayers continue to come your way from Canada <3

  5. As a hospice nurse, I can say that was a very wise choice for her! She may find herself feeling better once the chemo is out of her system, it frequently happens! And hospice will do all they can to manage her pain and support all of you! Keep making those plans and know prayer is upholding all of you when you don’t have the strength…

  6. Please find out about Cannibas oil, it truly works, my husband had stage 4b cancer he was given 4-6 weeks to live last April he walks his 10,000 steps daily and is well I swear by it, thoughts with you and your family

  7. Oh, Shelly. I don’t even have words. Even though we’ve never met in person, I wish I could wrap you in a big hug! Praying for you and her, your family, your children, her children. I hope she can make some of those great summer memories with her family.

  8. Thank you for the update! Continued prayers for all of the family! Dear Lord that this family would be healed and that peace rains down over them! Storming heaven with prayers. God Bless!

    1. Thanks Karen! Feeling all the prayers right now, that’s for sure. Scored a motorized cart today at a garage sale, laundry is washed and packed, food bought and prepped… praying we can take Cath to all the beautiful, scenic places along Lake Michiga, Sleeping Bear Dunes and the Leelanau peninsula

  9. I am praying for all of you. I couldn’t believe it when I read about all of you several months ago and still can’t. I have followed your work for a long time but couldn’t even comment because I had no idea what to say. I love all and my prayers are with you!

    1. I’ve been so focused on getting through each day, each hour, each moment that I haven’t had much of a chance to think about the future. Grasping on to as many memories as we can right now.

  10. Shelly, we have been praying for you all over this nation and indeed globally.
I also know that the Indiana legislature ok’d research on CBD oil… and it is my understanding that it is legal in MI

    1. Thank you! Her oncologist said that would help too but Cath doesn’t want to try it. She’s in so much daily pain

  11. Where in Michigan? My husbands side of the fmaily was in Bay city area and every single member has had cancer. Only his grandparents, and one uncle have recovered. I am so sorry you are going throuh this. Have you read about successful stories of maintaining a ketone diet? There is a young man in europe with brain cancer. Hos tumor decreased each visit after eating a very limiting ketone diet. Thank you for sharing your story with others. Lord Jesus be with this family as they undertake such a horrible experience. Be by their side and up hold them and strengthen them during this time. Give them more of yourself and transform the innermost important parts Lord, so when the time comes, her heart is prepared to be by your side. Thank you for loving humanity and giving us life and breathe. I pray she will have your peace in the moments of everydya life. In Jesus name amen

    1. Hi Alisha, we’re on the other side of the state in Grand Rapids. I’ve already decided if my cancer comes back, I’m travelling out of the state for better medical treatment; as good as West Michigan is with medical, I feel they fall far behind the leading cancer institutes elsewhere. It’s so hard to figure out where to go though. I definitely will go the route of more natural way of healing as I’ve seen nothing but torture via chemo. Thank you so much for your prayers. We really need them right now as there was an awful tragedy that happened this weekend with a couple en route to my niece’s wedding. I’m beginning to lose hope that things will ever get better.
