Two tone Navy and Mahogany Dresser

Last week I found a great highboy with beautiful mahogany drawers.  The body was made out of maple or some other type of wood and was stained a different color. I typically paint everything but something inside me said “save the drawers!”

I took a vote on our ShizzleLLC Facebook page to get color inspiration on what would coordinate with the drawers and the majority voted for Navy.  I’ll be the first to admit that navy is not my go to color when it comes to painting but it is definitely a  trending color right now for painted furniture.

 

 

 

I went with the popular vote of Navy and was happy to see I had a little Born on the 4th left over from a custom paint job.  Born on the 4th is a gorgeous, deep, rich Navy blue from American Paint Company.

I layered two thinned coats of paint then sealed it with Frenchic’s Rustic Wax.  I wanted it a bit deeper in color but not too black and Rustic Wax was the perfect choice.  It’s a dark wax that pulls more black undertones than brown yet it’s subtle and extremely easy to work with.

 

 

It added just the amount of depth and variation I envisioned.  I did update the pulls by changing the color so they’d coordinate with the trending new paint job.

I also polished up the drawers inside and out and off to Not So Shabby it went.  I have to say, I’m still not crazy for navy furniture but I’ve had so many complimentary comments on this one piece, I can’t even count them anymore.  So guess I’m not up on latest trends.
