Faux Crocodile Paint Metallic Finish and ADHD

I am notorious for starting things I don’t finish ~ thoughts, projects, laundry, dishes, yard work ~ pretty much everything.  There are piles of unfinished clutter in every corner of every flat surface in my home.  The state of our house is a direct correlation to the adhd state of my brain and I honestly don’t wish this on anyone.  I really don’t.  I joke about it all the time but it’s an enormous struggle every day of my life and the older I get, the more foggy my brain becomes.

And that dear friends brings me to why I’m publishing this post over a year after I refinished the buffet.

I purchased this from a local thrift store thinking it would be a quick flip.

That thought was my first mistake.  It wasn’t until I got the first coat of paint on that I noticed how obvious the little humps were on the top.  No worries, I’ll just sand them all smooth and reapply.

I still wasn’t happy with the outcome.  Even if nobody else could see the slight imperfections, I could and it was driving me bonkers so I ordered some black textured finish and rolled through it with my faux crocodile roller.

It’s so easy to use.  All you have to do is quickly spread on a thin layer of the texture and then roll through it.  Easy peasy.

The brand I bought looked all shiny when wet but dried flat.

I went over that with metallic glazes from American Paint Company called Metallix, no that’s not a typo.  Metallix is available in several beautiful metallic colors all of which I carry on our Online Shizzle Shop here as well as in West Michigan at Not So Shabby and Changing Thymes – Wilson.

I of course, like to mix, so I dumped several colors on then brushed them out with my 4″ dry brushing brush.

This is what it looked like after the Metallix was applied and is exactly what I was hoping for.  Now all I needed was dark wax.  If you like the way it looks in the picture below, then you could go ahead and seal with Clear Wax or a Clear Coat.

I applied a combination of Clear, Black and Dark waxes from American Paint Company to create even more differentiation and dimension to the faux finish and love the end result.

Sorry, this is the only picture I was able to get as it sold before it made it to the store and with my sister’s passing, photography just wasn’t a priority.  If anyone is interested, let me know and I’ll try to do a live video when I finish the coffee table.

I have a square Bombay coffee table that I applied the same textured finish on and will do the same metallic  finish on that as soon as time allows.

Somebody asked me about Metallix today so I referred her to this post.  The thing is, this post only existed in my head because I finished the buffet three days before Cathy passed away.  I’m sure that’s one of the many reasons I forgot to write the post.
