It's that time of year when everyone is getting ready for the holidays.  Well... not everybody but ready or not, Thanksgiving is only two days away and before we know it, Christmas will be here. It's been Christmas for several weeks now at Shizzle.  When you sell home decor, you're elbows deep in evergreens months before it hits the floor. For whatever reason, I tend to paint something red around the holidays.  This year was no exception.  We have several fantastic reds across our three paint lines.  This time I I went with APC's Cannonball & Firework's Red.  This petite dresser is sealed with Clear and Dark Wax and is now available at our Shizzle Design space within Not So Shabby.  I used Cannonball because it was open but I actually prefer GunPowder as a base color.

Little Red Dresser

I painted this children's rocking chair simultaneously with the same combo.  The chair is for sale at our Changing Thyme's location at 2900 Wilson Avenue, Grandville, MI  49418.

This outstanding buffet came from a dear friend of mine who was unable to finish painting it because she was taking care of her mom as she battled cancer.  She passed this gorgeous gem onto me to do my magic.   Little did I know at the time, my life would also come to a screeching halt. When her husband dropped it off, I immediately fell in love.  It had the most gorgeous lines and super cool hardware.

I'm feeling a bit emotional as I write this next post as it brings me back to a time  just before the first surgery.  Cathy was still here and it was business as usual at Shizzle Design.  I was nervous about my upcoming surgery to remove the cancer from within my humerus so I took out my frustration sanding an old work table.   I fell in love with this old thing at a local flea market.  It had been well loved in it's previous life , as a matter of fact, it was downright filthy and it took hours upon hours to clean her all up.

I've always admired the unique character of old piano stools and pick them up every chance I get.  I bought this piece several years ago so my family would have an extra stool for playing the guitar, ukulele, violin and cello. It's super cool, constructed of solid oak can adjust several inches in height.  That's one of the neatest parts of the design.  I LOVE that part.  Who's with me on this?  I can't be along because it's downright awesome!  It reminds me of old swivel desk chair hardware like that on one we sold last year. I know, I'm drawn to strange things but it's those details that really speak it me.  You just don't see that kind of craftsmanship anymore in our mass produced, face paced world. As cool as the piano stool is, the kids keep going back to the little chippy red chair that they've used since they were little and we've got a big trip we're saving up for.  The girls and I are headed to Spain in 1-1/2 years so we've started selling things out of our house that we don't use anymore.  (click link to continue reading...)

I love the silky smooth feel of this piece.  Seriously can't keep my hands off it.  Sounds weird right?  But it's true.  It's hard for me to walk through a store and NOT touch the furniture.  What can I say? This painted furniture makeover is basic chalk painting in it's simplest...
